Dover, NH 9/11 Memorial Dedication: Dover, New Hampshire, will dedicate its new permanent 9/11 Memorial on September 11, 2026, marking the 25th anniversary of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.
The memorial will be installed in the Cocheco Mill Courtyard on Central Avenue, a site chosen for its historical significance as the location of Dover’s first 9/11 memorial ceremony. Designed by retired Dover Fire Chief David Hanna, the structure will be about 27 feet long and 11 feet high, constructed from black polished granite and gray granite. It will feature four granite panels representing:

Silhouettes of an EMS provider, a police officer, a firefighter, and a military member will be incorporated to symbolize the diverse roles in the response. Backlighting will illuminate the structure at night, and two spotlights will be directed skyward to evoke the Twin Towers during ceremonies. A new flagpole will also be installed
Purpose and Community Role
The memorial is intended as a place for remembrance, reflection, and education. It will honor the 3,000 lives lost on 9/11, as well as thousands more affected, and will serve as a site for ceremonies, quiet reflection, and school field trips. The design incorporates the wishes of families of four Dover residents who perished: Douglas Stone (Flight 11), Kathleen and Michael Shearer (Flight 175), and David Scott Suarez (World Trade Center).
