THE FOUR WAY TEST

Of the things we think, say or do:

1. Is it the TRUTH?

2. Is it FAIR to all concerned?

3. Will it build GOODWILL & BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?

4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?

THE OBJECT OF ROTARY

Is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular, to encourage and foster:

1. The development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service

2. High ethical standards in business and professions; the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations; and the dignifying of each Rotarian's occupation as an opportunity to serve society.

The application of the ideal of service in each Rotarian's personal, business and community life.

Program – Dover H.S. Unified Wellness

“I have actually made friends,” said a student named Doug, in a letter to M.J. Hippern, a teacher and coach at Dover H.S. who developed a Unified Wellness and Unified Sports Programs for Dover and other area schools. The note from Doug had a hand-drawn happy face and the words “you've really made an enormous positive difference” underlined in bright colors.

Two students, Kevin and Cam, joined M.J. to tell the compelling story about the goals and successes of Unified Wellness and Unified Sports programs bringing students together with and without intellectual disabilities.

Special Olympics asked M.J. to go to a conference for Project UNIFY in Omaha, Nebraska with the goal of developing school communities to foster respect and advocacy for people with intellectual disabilities - quick paths to friendship and understanding. After the conference M.J. wrote a grant to expand the program to build a Unified Friendship Network.Over 165 people came to first Unified Sports event from five area schools. She wrote and received a bigger grant to open the program to three different areas across NH.

M.J. and her students’ efforts are now focused on attending the 2013 Unified Volleyball Championships in Louisville, Kentucky – partially funded by Special Olympics. They have already raised $9,000 toward their goal of $12,000 and asked Rotary members to consider sponsorships of any amount.  She also invited Rotarians to come to a Unified Sports event on May 9th at Dover H.S. featuring Zumba.  All welcome.
